White Moose

Tonight I received an e-mail from a friend that told me about some rieslings he had tried at a tasting last week! So I got to thinking maybe it was time for a glass of my own. Deciding on a riesling from Konzelmann in Niagara - the label intrigued me - WHITE MOOSE. I had to try it.. Not to mention it comes in a dark blue bottle!! It is all about the marketing.

The wine is light blond in colour, clear and brilliant in the light. On the nose pear is prominent with hints of peach and maybe some honey and that lovely wet stone aroma i love! The palate follows the nose with great acidity and minerality on the back palate. A med dry wine with a 12.5 % alcohol level.
This is a nice wine to enjoy on its own or paired with some soft cheeses or pan seared scallops!
If you are in Niagara stop by Konzelmann and pick yourself up a bottle or two!

Olympic Hockey

Last night was the first game between Canada and the USA, and like every other proud Canadian I was seated in front of the television to watch the excitement!! I figured since we were watching Canadian hockey we might as well enjoy some Ontario wine.
I recently spent a weekend in Niagara'a wine country and of course brought some wonderful bottles back home with me!
Last night I opened Megalomaniac's Son of a Bitch Pinot Noir! Those of you that know me - know I bought the wine for its name!! I was told the wine was named after the grape itself as it is hard to grow and even harder to vinify!
The wine was a rich dark berry in colour with legs that held to the glass!! Nice concentration and a beautiful nose of black cherry and black licorce - the palate followed with hints of smoke and an earthy finish..( which I just happen to love!) I found this to be a big wine which surprised me at only 12.5% but it certainly did not disapoint.
I have another bottle in my cellar and am looking forward to seeing how it will evolve over time!!
